Produced water (PW) is a mixture of differentorganic and inorganic compounds. The outcome and effect of discharging PW on the environment has latelybecome an important issue of environmental concern. The aim of this study is to consider the capability of grampositive bacteria Rhodococcus erythropolis PTCC 1767 in biological treatment of synthetic PW. The Stepwiseadaptation was applied with increasing of 100 mg L-1interval COD of PW used for acclimate ofmicroorganism to synthetic PW and ethanol. Initial COD was 1000 mg L-1included synthetic PW 100 mg L-1COD of PW and 900 mg L-1COD of ethanol and R.eryhtropolis PTCC 1767 was adapted to syntheticPW until the COD of synthetic PW reached to 500 mg L-1.The stepwise adaptation of NaCl applied in 0,10,20 and 40 gL-1 NaCl. Maximum COD removal efficiency (97%) had been obtained in COD concentration of PW of 600 mgL-1 and 20 gL-1 NaCl.
