Black liquor is a rich source of polysaccharides and lignin. Lignin of black liquor can be separated as a co-product by acidification via ionic dissociation of NaHCO₃ and hydrolysis via diluted sulfuric acid addition, and used as energy source. During this process polysaccharides of black liquor are broken down and converted to monosaccharides such as xylose and glucose. In this study, xylose was revocered from industrial bagasse kraft black liquor by precipitation. The recovered xylose concentration was 196 g/l, which shows the used black liquor has high xylan contents that can be seperatedand hydrolysed to xylose. The recovered xylose can be used as the main carbon source for biological production of different bioproducts.
