Here in we report a simple and efficient method of synthesis of copper nanofluid by reducing 𝐶𝑢𝑆𝑂4.5𝐻2𝑂 with 𝑁𝑎𝐻2𝑃𝑂2.𝐻2𝑂 in ethylene glycol in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone used as the capping agent. The synthesis of the nanoparticles was carried out via two different methods of heating, namely conventional and microwave. The resulting nanoparticles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that the microwave irradiation had profound effect on the rate of the reduction of Cu ion , speeding the rate of reaction by more than 50 times . The analyses revealed that the size distribution of Cu nanoparticles obtained by the conventional heating method were 3.5nm to 34 nm, mostly between17nm to 24nm and highly agglomerated in the nanofluid ,but the microwave method resulted nanoparticles between 1.5-5 nm, mostly 3nm in size and uniformly distributed throughout the nanofluid. Also it was revealed that the morphology of the nanoparticles obtained by microwave heating method appeared to be more rounded in their shapes and spherical than those obtained by the other method of heating .
