A single step solid-state method has been used for the first time in the preparation of Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanosheets using zinc chloride. This method is one of the most simple, versatile, and cost-effective approaches available, which enables the synthesis completed in shorter times than the conventional solid-state method. The morphological, optical and morphological characterization of the as synthesized ZnO nanosheets was performed using X - ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the synthesized powder has the zincite structure. The average crystallite size of the equally prepared ZnO nanoparticles is 15 nm. The SEM result revealed that the synthesized ZnO material possesses nanosheets morphologies. It showed that ZnO nanosheets represent photocatalytic activities with a degradation efficiency of 71% for methylene blue with 120 min of irradiation. The reported ZnO products may be promising candidates as the photocatalysts in wastewater treatment.
