In this work, electro-coagulation (EC) process was performed in a batch reactor to investigate the removal efficiency of styrene from wastewater. Different parameters such as current density, initial pH and salt concentration (conductivity) were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) based on the Box-Behnken design (BBD) at three levels. The percentage removal of styrene, sludge volume index (SVI) and energy consumption were calculated as responses. By employing Al electrodes, the optimum conditions including current density of 14.32 mA/cm2, pH of 6.76 and salt concentration of 1.41 g/L led to maximum removal of styrene (60.32%), minimum SVI (835.42 mL/g) and energy consumption of 26.38 kWh/kg (3.18 kWh/m3).
