This study indicates the effect of citric acid (CA) and coagulation bath temperature (CBT) on the formation and performance of polyacrilonitrile (PAN) nanofiltration (NF) membranes. Results show a significant improvement in pure water flux upon addition of citric acid as an organic additive to the dope solution and by increasing the temperature of the coagulation bath. Findings also reveals that pure water flux is increased from 88.33 up to 118.55 (L.m-2hr-1), by adding 1.5 wt.% citric acid to the dope formula and from 100.24 up to 125.46 (L.m-2hr-1), by increasing CBT from 25°C to 45°C. Moreover, analysis of the cross-sectional morphology of the membranes demonstrates that porosity of the membrane increased by addition of CA to the dope. Also increasing in CBT leads to formation of larger macroviods and more porous structure in the membranes. Porosity of the membranes is increased from 48.76% up to 59.37% and from 51.94% up to 64.85% by addition of CA in dope solution and by increasing CBT, respectively
