An adsorbent made of polyaniline (PANI) and modified with Activated Carbon (AC) was prepared by the chemical precipitation method, and its application for adsorption of progesterone (PRO) and estradiol valerate (EV) from aqueous solutions was investigated. First, the adsorbents were characterized by the FTIR and SEM analyses, which show these hormones have been successfully added onto the adsorbent surface. The effects of the experimental parameters affecting hormones sorption onto the PANI and PANI/AC, such as adsorbent amount, contact time and the initial concentration of hormones were studied. The AC is shown to play an important role in the adsorption process. Adsorption increased rapidly within the first 120 min of the process. The maximum adsorption capacity of PRO was higher than EV.
