Acetic acid is one of the major products with many uses in the petrochemical industry. In this work, we simulate the reaction section of an industrial acetic acid production unit with Aspen Hysys in steady state and dynamic mode. Required steps before running dynamic simulation are, equipment sizing, plumbing, configuring control loops, and adjusting controller parameters. Then, the controller parameters are tuned, and the system controllability is examined through applying disturbances or changing the set points. Responses of control systems to ±5% change in methanol feed flowrate set point and carbon monoxide pressure indicated that the controllers could set the controlled variables at their set points.
