Kinetic hydrate inhibitors (KHIs) are often added to natural gas streams before pipeline transport for the prevention of gas hydrate problems. Because disposal of produced waters containing KHIs have a negative impact on the environment, an effective treatment method is needed to remove KHI. we have designed and fabricated polyphenylsulfone (PPSU)/graphen oxide (GO) membranes by phase inversion method using different concentrations of GO nanoplates as additives. The effect of the GO nanoplates on the characteristics of PPSU membranes was investigated with scanning electron microscopy(SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) observations, and contact angle measurement. The performance of the membranes was investigated in terms of the pure water flux (PWF), and KHI rejection. The membrane hydrophilicity increases due to the addition of GO nanoplates. It was also found that the presence of GO in the blend membranes was an important factor affecting the morphology and permeation properties of the membranes. The nanocomposite membrane embedded with 0.1 wt. % GO exhibited high performance ultrafiltration membranes with considerably improved flux.
