Different technologies are available for the extraction of active natural components and essential oils from the herbal plants. The choice of appropriate technique is depends on the economic feasibility, selectivity and suitability of the process to the particular situation. Among the different extraction techniques used at laboratory and industrial scale, Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) is one of the most used. In This review after the introduction about general aspects and concepts of SFE process especially Super Critical CO2 (SC-CO2) process, some of SC-CO2 applications in pharmaceutical and food industry and described and finally a short survey of mathematical modelling in SFE process explained.
