Catastrophic failures in RESIdential building foundations due to the wetting collapse is a very serous problem in loessial arid zones in this paper the collapse potential and the variation of the volumetrica water content of a loessial soil taken from gorgan a city in golestan province in iran has been investigated by using unsaturated odometer tests under controlled matric suction. for this purpose undisturbed samples have been tested under K0 condition while the matric suctionvolumetric water content and vertical deformationof the samples controlled.
