Planar Laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) and Conductivity methods used to measure mixing
times in aerated and unaerated tank stirred with dual Rushton impeller. Theoretical and
experimental comparisons between these two types of methodology are presented in this paper. The
Conductivity method is cheap and easy to use but affecting the local flow pattern and are likely to
provide local measurements which are influenced by the region of scrutiny. In modern PLIF method
despite the accuracy, in order to maximize the quantitativeness of the results correction for several
error sources must be made, also measuring and determination of the degree of homogeneity is
expensive and need to some specific apparatus and not available in every laboratory systems. The
objective of this paper is to find conditions that simple conductivity method with acceptable
accuracy could be used and empirical correlations are derived based on experimental data.
