Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide which has been reported to be a suitable biopolymer for the removal of metal ions
from wastewater. As the presence of such metals in the nature causes harmful effects, the separation of trace quantities
of heavy metal ions is a great concern for achieving environmental standards. Chitosan membrane can separate such
ions in low quantities with chelation mechanism. Polymer concentration and accessible amino groups play an important
role in the separation. For this, the membrane morphology is really an effective parameter on separation amount.
In this paper, the effect of impressive factors (polymer, solvent and nonsolvent concentration) on membrane
morphology and copper ions separation amount is studied. By decreasing polymer concentration, increasing solvent and
nonsolvent concentration, the membrane becomes more porous, and due to the kind of process which is batch, the
polymer amount on the opposite side of the surface decreases and hence the separation is decreased.
