Oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of a non-hydrotreted kerosene with the total sulfur content of 2500 ppmw produced by
an Iranian oil refining company (Tehran, Iran) was successfully conducted with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and
formic acid. Influences of various operating parameters including reaction temperature, hydrogen peroxide to sulfur
molar ratio (O/S), and formic acid to sulfur molar ratio (Acid/S) on the desulfurization of untreated kerosene were
investigated by Taguchi method. The optimum oxidation conditions were found to be ; reaction temperature = 55 ºC,
O/S molar ratio = 5, Acid/S molar ratio = 40, and reaction time = 90 min. Over 99% desulfurization of kerosene was
achieved by applying the optimum oxidation conditions obtained by Taguchi method.
