The viscous mixing characteristics of the Visco-jet impeller are compared with those of a Rushton turbine. The
methodology is based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling. Mixing in baffled and unbaffled stirred
tanks have been studied. In this work, the laminar established flow pattern and hydrodynamic parameters such as power
consumption, power number, power constant, local axial flow number, average axial flow number and axial circulation
time are calculated for two impellers. The results show that the Visco-jet impeller uses less power in comparison with
Rushton turbine. Subsequently, the results show the axial flow number, average axial flow number and average axial
circulation time in both configurations for Visco-jet are more than those of Rushton turbine.
