A series of Sr/La catalysts have been prepared using precipitation method by sodium hydroxide and testing their
activity in oxidative conversion of methane to ethane and ethylene. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray
diffraction (XRD) and FTIR. For Sr/La, CH4 conversion of 43% with C2 selectivity of 28% have been obtained for
SrCl2.6H2O/LaCl3.7H2O catalyst whereas conversion and selectivity were 53% and 17% for Sr(NO3)2/La(NO3)3.6H2O.
So that with addition of Cl ion to the system, C2 selectivity is improved. XRD indicated that there was some exchange
of Cl- and O2-, leading to the formation of tetragonal LaOCl phase during the catalyst preparation. The presence of
La(OH)3 and La2O3 phases were also accepted by XRD and FTIR characterization.
