Acid corrosion causes many problems in industrial operations of acetic acid production. The possibility of applying
methanol absorbent instead of acetic acid absorbent in light end recovery system of acetic acid unit of Fanavaran petrochemical
complex was investigated. The simulation was carried out using Aspen plus software. Simulation results of applying methanol
showed an absorption efficiency of 99.6% in high pressure absorption tower and 99.3% in low pressure absorption tower. The
corresponding values for acetic acid absorbent were 99.7% in high pressure absorption tower and 99.6% in low pressure absorption
tower. Results obtained of applying methanol were comparable with acetic acid, moreover the decreasing the equipments corrosion
and removal of stripper tower are the advantages of methanol absorbent.
