In this paper, modeling of matrix acidizing process in sandstone formations and development of a
matrix acidizing numerical simulator are investigated. Models used to describe sandstone matrix
acidizing are presented and one of the most applicable models is used for computer programming.
Governing equations in this model are presented and the steps for software development are
explained. By means of this simulator, the effects of formation characteristics and design
parameters are discussed. The most important designing parameters in sandstone matrix acidizing
are acid formulation, injection rate and preflush and over flush volumes. Sensitivity analysis
demonstrates that formation characteristics that affect these design parameters are type of damaging
material, rock composition, radius and severity of damage. It is also concluded that modeling and
numerical simulation can provide an invaluable means of determining the best matrix acidizing
design for a given set of formation and damage characteristics. The simulator developed in this
work could be used for such a purpose.
