The Taguchi experimental design method was applied for the systematic and effective investigation of the optimal treatment conditions of wastewater contaminated with MTBE by UV/H2O2 process, which would be affected by various parameters, such as MTBE concentration, H2O2 concentration, time, distance between solution and UV lamp and initial pH. From the results of sixteen experimental runs, for the evaluation of five factors and four levels, having the equivalent effects of 1024 experimental runs, the following results are derived. Most of the experimental conditions in this study showed good results at the low distance between solution and UV lamp and the long time of UV irradiation. Optimum operating conditions for MTBE removal were MTBE concentration 250 ppm, H2O2 concentration2.5 mmol, time25 min, distance between solution and UV lamp7 cm and initial pH 7. The percentages contribution of parameters was also investigated.
