امروزه، طراحي به ويژه طراحي معماري صرفا طراحي فرم، رنگ و بافت فضا نيست، بلكه معنايي فراتر دارد. بر اساس نظريه قابليت محيط، محيط مجموعه اي سازمان داده شده از توانش ها و يا قابليت ها است. بنابر مطالعات مفهوم قابليت محيط، مفهومي جامع و دربرگيرنده است كه به سبب دلالت هاي گوناگون در راستاي محيط زندگي واجد تعابير گوناگوني شده است. حوزه معماري و محيط انسان ساخت نيز از اين دلالت ها بهره گرفته؛ اما تأكيد بر مفهوم قابليت محيط در بستر اين مطالعات كمتر به مفهومي كاربردي و كارآمد ارجاع داشته است از اينرو به نظر مي رسد با تحليل عميق اين مفهوم محوري در بستر مطالعات معماري و محيط انسان ساخت مي توان به جمع بندي كاربردي و كارآمدي دست يافت. نويسندگان در اين مقاله مي كوشند با بررسي ادبيات محيط و رفتار، نگرشي جامع و بن مايه اي نظري به اين مفهوم داشته آن را مورد تحليل قرار دهند. روش پژوهش در اين مقاله برمبناي روشي كيفي است كه با رويكردي تفسيرگرا به تحليل نظريات و آراء معتبر با محور قرار دادن مفهوم قابليت محيط مبتني بر ادبيات محيط و رفتار در معماري مي پردازد. در نهايت اين پژوهش چنين نتيجه گيري شده كه استفاده از قابليت ها پيشنهاد يك رويكرد ارزشمند است براي فهم رابطه بين ادراك انسان، مشخصه هاي فيزيكي محيط و رفتاري كه با اين مشخصه ها پشتيباني مي شود. برقرار كردن ارتباط بين قابليت ها و طراحي معماري، فهم بهتر رابطه بين كاربران و محيط هاي ساخته شده را به همراه دارد.

In this article, the author tries to have a comprehensive approach and theoretical basis to this concept by examining the literature on environment and behavior. The research method in this article is based on a qualitative method that analyzes valid theories and opinions with an interpretive approach, focusing on the concept of environmental capability based on environmental literature and behavior in architecture. Finally, this study concludes that the use of capabilities suggests a valuable approach to understanding the relationship between human perception, physical characteristics of the environment and the behavior that is supported by these characteristics. Establishing a relationship between capabilities and architectural design leads to a better understanding of the relationship between users and built environments.
