Reducing Drilling Challenges and Cost using RFID

Drilling equipment, like many other equipment’s in the industry, are expensive and require a lot of maintenance, but unlike many other equipment’s in other industries, no measures have ever been taken in order to properly monitoring and tracking said equipment’s with an addition to predict their health and longevity down the line. The technology that enables all of these operations has been made available to us for decades already, it is small and cheap to manufactory alongside it the accompanying software is easy to write and maintain, we are of course talking about NFC Tags. These chips can be placed at places where the equipment can be easily read by a reader which then transmits the data to a server, holding a record of everything. Perhaps the only factor hindering a wide spread adoption of these technologies is the rather harsh and hostile working environment. Drilling sites are very harsh environments and the workers on site usually have little to no regard for the equipment and so they are not handled very well, resulting in tools breaking and malfunctioning overtime. This is the reason why we first need to teach a proper working measure, ethics and the adequate handling of equipment’s and tools.
