In this study, the rheological properties of paving binders modified with a proposed thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) alloy were investigated at high and intermediate temperatures which are essential temperatures to evaluate permanent deformations and cracks in hot mix asphalt. The proposed alloy was prepared through dynamic vulcanization method by mixing linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR), nanoclay, and petroleum bitumen which has a crucial role as compatibilizer. Bitumen in this alloy helps modified bitumen to be stable in high temperatures that shows prepared modifier is compatible with base bitumen. The modified binders were prepared by mixing a 60/70 penetration grade binder with 2, 4, and 6% of the TPE. Performشnce based tests have been carried out on samples to evaluate fatigue and rutting resistance. The multiple stress creep and recovery (MSCR) test on modified binders showed improved resistance to permanent deformation (rutting) at 64C (i.e., high in-service temperature of pavements). The Linear amplitude sweep test performed at 25C showed improvement in resistance of binder to fatigue cracking.
