Healthy sleep has an important role in people s daily lives and the classification of sleep stages refers to the accurate identification of different stages of sleep and it is an important step of helping physicians diagnose and treat sleep disorders. Manual Classification of sleep stages by experts is a very time consuming and error-prone task due to human error and the large number of signals used for classification. Therefore, our purpose in this article is using only the two main vital signals which are electroencephalogram and electrocardiogram. These signals contain the most information and can only be recorded with one channel or one lead. So, they make the patient feel more comfortable, free and as a conclusion, have a comfortable sleep. As a result, the classification work will be done more accurately due to the lower number of waking times due to the patient connecting to the leads. For this purpose, we used the MIT-BIH Polysomnographic database. After extracting the EEG signal rhythms and the HRV and EDR signals from the ECG signal, we put the best features extracted from them together. Finally, 95.50%, 89.20%, 94.90% and 86.61% accuracy were obtained to dissociation two classes of rapid and non-rapid eye movement, sleep and wake, deep and light sleep, and three classes of wake, rapid and non-rapid eye movement, respectively. Compared to recent studies, our proposed method has provided higher accuracy for automatic classification of sleep stages.
