نظريه پردازي در خصوص كلان شهرهاي آينده همواره مورد توجه صاحب نظران بوده است. چنان چه نتايج مطالعات و تحقيقات صورت گرفته در معاصر نشان مي دهد شهرهاي (بدون كربن، زيست پذير، هوشمند پايدار يا دانش محور) سرنوشت گريزناپذير شهرها در هزاره سوم مي باشند كه داراي ابعاد، مولفه ها و شاخص هاي زيادي است. از اين رو اين پژوهش به بيان و تحليل پيشينه، مفاهيم، شاخص ها و نظريات پيرامون شهرهاي آينده (بدون كربن، زيست پذير، هوشمند پايدار و دانش محور) پرداخته است. بر اساس مرور ادبيات، مولفه هاي شهر آينده مشتمل بر (حكم روايي؛ امكانات رفاهي؛ زيست پذيري؛ امنيت و ايمني؛ فناوري سبز؛ فناوري همه جا-گستر، سرمايه اجتماعي؛ تساهل و تسامح اجتماعي؛ شبكه اي شدن جهاني؛ سرمايه انساني؛ نوآوري، تحقيق و توسعه؛ تلفيق كاربري ها و حمل و نقل پايدار) مي باشند.

Theorizing about future metropolises has always been the focus of experts. As the results of contemporary studies and research show, cities (carbon-free, livable, smart, sustainable or knowledge-oriented) are the inevitable destiny of cities in the third millennium, which have dimensions, components and indicators. There are many. Therefore, this research has analyzed the background, concepts, indicators and ideas about future cities (carbon-free, livable, smart, sustainable and knowledge-oriented). Based on the literature review, the components of the future city include (governance, amenities, livability, security and safety, green technology, ubiquitous technology, social capital, tolerance and social tolerance, networking) global; human capital; innovation, research and development; integration of uses and sustainable transportation).
