In this work, we demonstrate a facile method that imparts hydrophobic character to UiO-66 , while retaining their porosity. The long alkyl chain of stearic acid with low surface energy was grafted onto the surface of UiO-66, which would make UiO-66 high water resistance, yielding a hydrophobic material with a contact angle of 93°. The products were characterized by BET, XRD methods to monitor their textural properties before and after functionalization. The results indicated that stearic acid was successfully grafted to the UiO-66 framework. Therefore, we were able to greatly improve the stability of UiO-66.
