Effect of carrier gas flow rate on performance of polypropylene pyrolysis

The large volume of plastic waste and resulting environmental pollution, along with the depletion of fossil fuels, has led to a growing interest in the conversion of plastic waste into valuable fuel. This study investigated the thermal pyrolysis of polypropylene plastic in a fixed bed reactor made of stainless steel, at various flow rates of carrier gas including 20, 25 and 30 ml.min-1. The results shows that thermal pyrolysis of polypropylene plastic can effectively decompose and convert it into valuable fuel and desirable products. . The results shows that the optimal liquid fuel yield obtained from the thermal pyrolysis process of polypropylene is at flow rate of 20 ml.min-1. The amount of liquid fuel obtained at this flow rate is 0.927 g. This study emphasizes the importance of examining operational parameters, particularly flow rate of carrier gas, in thermal pyrolysis processes, to produce valuable fuels and reduce plastic waste accumulation and environmental pollution.
