با توجه به آمار و مطالعات انجام‌شده، در دهه‌هاي اخير ارتباط صنعت و دانشگاه اهميت بسياري پيدا كرده است. از نظر تاريخي شروع مشاركت افراد اهل علم و صنعتگران، در اروپا به اواخر قرن نوزده و در آمريكا به سال‌هاي پس از انقلاب صنعتي برمي‌گردد، انقلاب صنعتي باعث شد تا ارتباط صنعت و دانشگاه اهميت ويژه‌اي پيدا كند.با تغيير اقتصاد جهاني و افزايش رقابت بين كشورها، دولت‌ها و بنگاه‌هاي اقتصادي كشورها به دانش روز علاقه پيدا كردند و خواستار برخورداري از يافته‌هاي علمي جديد و نوآورانه شدند. دولت‌ها همواره در تلاشند تا با سرمايه‌گذاري در دانشگاه‌ها، صنايع و تقويت ارتباط بين اين دو حوزه به پيشرفت و توسعه كشور خود كمك كنند.ارتباط صنعت و دانشگاه باعث رشد و توسعه بخش‌هاي مختلفي در كشور مي‌شود كه از جمله مهم‌ترين آن‌ها مي‌توان به كشاورزي، بيوتكنولوژي، شيمي، علوم كامپيوتر، مهندسي، پزشكي و دارويي اشاره كرد. هر كدام از اين بخش‌ها به زيرشاخه‌هاي متعددي تقسيم مي‌شوند، كه مستقيم يا غيرمستقيم بر زندگي مردم تاثير مي‌گذارند.

According to the statistics and studies conducted, the relationship between industry and university has become very important in recent decades. Historically, the beginning of the participation of scientists and industrialists in Europe dates back to the late nineteenth century and in America to the years after the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution caused the connection between industry and university to become particularly important. With the change in the global economy and the increase in competition between Countries, governments and economic enterprises of countries became interested in modern knowledge and demanded to have new and innovative scientific findings. Governments are always trying to contribute to the progress and development of their country by investing in universities, industries and strengthening the connection between these two areas. The connection between industry and university causes the growth and development of various sectors in the country, among which the most important ones are agriculture, biotechnology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, medicine and pharmaceuticals. Each of these sectors is divided into several sub-sectors, which directly or indirectly affect people s lives
