Cancer is described as a multifaceted disease regarded as by an uninhibited growth, so that the loss of notable natural or synthetic healing drug mediators has been the hot topic of investigators. Hence, there is an undeniable demand for creating novel healing policies for cancer treatments, which act by controlling the procedure for cell proliferation, reducing the incidence of malignancy, stimulating cytostatic properties and hindering or postponing the development of tumorogenesis. Pomegranate, which belongs to the family of Punicaceae, is botanically named Punica granatum. Ellagic acid, ellagitannins, punicalagin, flavonoids and 3-glucosides/3,5-diglucosides of the anthocyanins, delphinidin, cyanidin and pelargonidin are active polyphenolics of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.). Polyphenols of pomegranate revealed that anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects were evident in various cancer models such as lung, prostate, breast, and in chemically induced colon cancer in animal studies. Here, authors focused on anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative activities of pomegranate polyphenolics and their effects on cancer.
