The Lut Desert holds the record for some of the highest temperatures ever recorded globally. Monitoring its temperatures can offer insights into global thermal trends. This study aimed to determine the Lut s recent surface temperatures by integrating various remote sensing datasets. We compared Land Surface Temperature (LST) images from Landsat-8 derived using the mono-window algorithm (MWAL8) and split-window algorithm (SWAL8) with LST estimates from Sentinel-3 SLSTR. Our findings reveal notable discrepancies in the LST data from these satellites, with an average bias of -1.80 K between SWAL8 and MWAL8, even though the spatial LST patterns appeared congruent. Our data suggests that in July 2023, some areas of the Lut Desert reached temperatures exceeding 79°C.
