The Impact of Farhangian University’s Practicum Courses from the Viewpoints of Teacher-Students

Practicum as one of the key courses in teacher training programme of Farhangian university aims to give opportunities to teacher-students to gain practical experience, deepen expertise, get involved in discussion and develop professional competencies. The program, which has a long history in the curriculums of Iran’s teacher training programmes, has numerously been revised, and commonly presented in four semesters. The present study investigates the impact of this program from the viewpoint of teacher-students in their interaction with the other two significant parties (i.e., school mentors and university mentors). After the validity and reliability of the instrument having been assessed with satisfactory results, the adapted questionnaire was distributed among 120 mentees being randomly selected from the students studying different fields of study in different branches of the university. The results of single-sample t-test showed that the mentees, schoolteachers, and university instructors were good at all factors. Furthermore, the results of t-correlations indicated that teachers had better performance than instructors. In general, the effectiveness of these two elements in the new practicum program of the university is an indication that the program is successful. The results of this research can be completed in future with more thorough studies among students of other campuses in the country, at different levels of education and with other elements of the programme.
