Aim and Background: As myocardial infarction (MI) has gained more attention worldwide, designing an appropriate bio/nanomaterial has emerged as a new trend in myocardial tissue engineering. Here, we developed a nanofibrous scaffold made of a combination of polyurethane, collagen, and chitosan and gold nanoparticles. Results and discussion: various techniques were used to characterize the electrospun nanofibers, including transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), water contact angle, degradation studies, tensile tests, electrical resistance measurement, and cell viability assay. All investigations demonstrated the appropriate formation of nanofibers with proper chemical and mechanical properties. The results illustrated the cyto-compatibility of the above-mentioned scaffold using HUVEC cells. Conclusion: In the present study, PU/Cs/Col/AuNPs nanofibers were successfully fabricated and their potential as a cardiac patch was confirmed.
