چكيده فارسي :
اهواز به عنوان يكي از كلانشهرهاي امروز كشورمان، عمدتا به واسطه نفت و نقشي كه در صنايع معاصر، چون فولاد، كشت و صنعت و ... ايفا مي‌كند شناخته شده است؛ حال آنكه اين شهر به واسطه گذشته باستاني و پر فراز و نشيب آن نيز شايسته توجهي بيش از آني است كه امروزه بدان مبذول مي‌گردد. شهر باستاني هرمز اردشير كه از نوشهرهاي مشهور ساسانيان بوده بر ويرانه‌هاي اهواز پارتي و پيش از آن بنا شده و شادروان مشهور اهواز –كه گويي مشهورتر و بزرگتر از شادروان شوشتر بوده- در اين شهر بنا گشته است. در دوران پس از اسلام نيز اهواز تا چندين قرن يكي از آبادترين و مشهورترين شهرهاي اسلامي بوده؛ با اين وصف تا به امروز بررسي دقيق و جامعي پيرامون گذشته تاريخي اين شهر صورت نگرفته و سوالات فراواني چون حدود شهر قديم، ويژگيهاي اساسي آن، مكان سد قديم و... در هاله‌اي از ابهام باقي مانده است. مقاله حاضر سعي در روشن كردن وجوه تاريخي و باستاني شهري دارد كه امروزه بيشتر آن را شهري صنعتي و غير تاريخي مي‌شناسند.

Ahvaz is known as one of the metropolises of our country today, mainly because of oil and the role it plays in contemporary industries, such as steel, agriculture and industry, etc.; However, due to its ancient and ups and downs past, this city deserves more attention than the one that is paid to it today. The ancient city of Hormuz Ardashir, which was one of the famous new cities of the Sassanids, was built on the ruins of Ahvaz Parthian and before that, and the famous Shadorvan of Ahvaz - In the post-Islam era, Ahvaz was one of the most prosperous and famous Islamic cities for several centuries. However, until today, a detailed and comprehensive investigation of the historical past of this city has not been carried out, and many questions such as the limits of the old city, its basic features, the location of the old dam, etc., remain in an aura of uncertainty.as if it was more famous and bigger than the Shadorvan of Shushtar - was built in this city. The current article tries to clarify the historical and ancient aspects of a city that today is mostly known as an industrial and non-historical city
