It is obvious that the usual (Riemannian) topology on a spacetime
has no natural relation with the (pseudo-Riemannian) metric of general
(or special) relativity. Therefore, in order to overcome this disharmony, a
new topology on a strongly causal space-time was proposed. The homeomorphism
group of this topology is the conformal group of space-time and
carries all information about the smooth structure of it. The topology is
appealing and with physical interest. It thus seems that many calculation
involving the structures of space-time may be made purely topological.
