This research provides an overview of the reliability assessment of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) incorporating renewable energy resources and battery energy storage systems (BESS). VPPs have emerged as a promising solution for efficiently managing distributed energy resources. The reliability assessment focuses on evaluating the ability of VPPs to meet energy demands while considering the intermittent nature of renewables and the state of charge of battery storage. Key aspects of the assessment include analyzing the availability and reliability of renewable resources, assessing the performance and degradation characteristics of BESS, and implementing advanced control algorithms for optimal power flow. Fail-safe mechanisms, redundant systems, and intelligent monitoring technologies are also considered to mitigate potential failures. Uncertainties in energy demand and resource availability are addressed using Monte Carlo simulations and probabilistic models to quantify reliability metrics such as loss of load probability and energy curtailment. The assessment findings aid decision-making in VPP planning, design, and operation, allowing stakeholders to optimize resource allocation and enhance reliability.
