فناوري در لغت ترجمه تكنولوژي است و تنكولوژي از ريشه لاتين و دو جز تكنو و لوژيا به معناي شناخت يا دانش چگونگي انجام دادن يك كار تشكيل مي شود(افضل نيا،۱۳۶۷) آموزش و پرورش بايد به عنوان نهادي كه وظيفه آموزش و آماده سازي كودكان،نوجوانان و جوانان را براي زندگي بهتر و كسب مهارت هاي لازم بر عهده دارد، بيش از ساير نهادها خود را با تحولات سريع جهاني سازگار كند و از تحولات پيش آمده به نفع جامعه آموزشي استفاده نمايد. استفاده از فناوري هاي جديد اطلاعاتي و ارتباطي، نظام آموزشي را توانا كرده تا بتواند آموزش خود را در گستره وسيع تري عرضه كنند(رضوي،۱۳۸۶)محدود نبودن آموزش به بعد مكاني و فيزيكي با ورود به عرصه فناوري اطلاعات و ارتباطات موجب تسهيل در امر آموزش و صرفه جويي زماني شده است و محيط هاي يادگيري متمايزي از محيط هاي يادگيري سنتي را پديد آورده است. با مطرح شدن آموزش همگاني و جهاني آنچه كه باعث به ثمر رسيدن اين امر ميشود آموزش الكترونيك است كه با انعطاف پذيري بالاي خود قادر است با بهره گيري از روش هاي نوين آموزشي مبتني بر فناوري اطلاعات و ارتباطات، اين امر را تحقق بخشد. يادگيري الكترونيكي آن نوع يادگيري است كه در محيط شبكه و يا ابزارهاي شبكه اتفاق مي افتد و مستلزم به كارگيري رسانه هاي آموزشي همزمان و غيرهمزمان است.هرنوع مراجعه به فضاي شبكه كه به يادگيري شما كمك كند يادگيري الكترونيكي محسوب مي گردد.يادگيري الكترونيكي در پرتو آموزش الكترونيكي تحقق مي يابد،آموزش الكترونيكي هر نوع محتواي آموزشي است كه به صورت الكترونيكي ارائه شود.(فالون و براون،۱۳۸۳) يادگيري الكترونيكي اصطلاحي است كه به طور متداول مورد استفاده قرار ميگيرد اما براي يادگيري الكترونيكي تعريف مشتركي ارائه نشده است

Technology is the translation of technology, and thincology is formed from Latin root and two components of techno and logistics, meaning knowledge or knowledge of how to do a task. Education should, as an institution that is responsible for educating and preparing children, adolescents and young people for better lives and acquiring necessary skills, more than other institutions, adapt itself to the rapid global developments and use the developments for the benefit of the educational community. The use of new information and communication technologies has enabled the educational system to be able to offer their education in a wider range (Razavi, 2007). The lack of limited education to spatial and physical dimension by entering the field of information and communication technology has facilitated the education and time saving and has created distinct learning environments from traditional learning environments. With the introduction of universal and universal education, what makes this happen is e-learning, which with its high flexibility, is able to realize this by using new educational methods based on information and communication technology. E-learning is a type of learning that takes place in a network environment or network tools and requires the use of simultaneous and asynchronous educational media. Any reference to the network space that helps your learning is considered e-learning. E-learning is realized in the light of e-learning, e-learning is any kind of educational content that is provided electronically. (Fallon and Brown, 2004) E-learning is a term that is commonly used but does not have a common definition for e-learning.
