Y2SiO5 doped with Ce3+ (YSO:Ce) was successfully prepared by combustion process assisted with calcination at 1300 °C. Quantum dot (QD) shell on the surface of luminescent pigment was prepared by precipitation of CdSe QD at the basic environment. The effect of CdSe coating on the luminescence properties and morphology of the Y2SiO5:Ce3+ phosphors were investigated. The grain size of the powders prepared through this process was in the range of 500-800 nm and CdSe@Y2SiO5:Ce was hardly agglomerated. Luminescence spectra show typical broad Ce3+ luminescence in Y2SiO5 host around 420 nm. This luminescence peak emission was transferred to 540 nm by the formation of CdSe shell.
