Heavy metal pollution, with its severe health consequences, has intensified environmental concerns. Developing effective adsorbents for eliminating these hazardous metals from aquatic ecosystems is essential. This study introduces adenine as an efficient adsorbent to remove zinc ions, paving the way for bio-based metal-organic framework (bioMOF) nanoparticles. These nanoparticles enhance char formation in epoxy (EP) composites, as revealed by thermogravimetric analysis. Notably, the EP composite with 8.0 wt% bioMOF attains a remarkable 31.0% limiting oxygen index (LOI) and UL-94 V-0 rating, indicating excellent fire resistance. Furthermore, this composite experiences significant reductions of 56.3% in peak heat release rate (PHRR), 50.5% in total heat release (THR), and 72.0% in smoke production rate (SPR). Moreover, it exhibits elevated glass transition temperature and enhanced tensile strength. This innovative work presents a sustainable approach, repurposing adsorbent waste for crafting fire-safe EP resins
