The utilization of medicinal plants spans back through the annals of traditional medicine, dating almost as far back as the inception of humanity itself. This practice persists today, amid the backdrop of industrialized medicine and modern pharmaceuticals, maintaining its relevance and significance in the contemporary world. Recent years have witnessed a notable shift towards embracing medicinal plants over synthetic drugs, driven by various factors. However, the burgeoning interest in these natural remedies has also raised concerns regarding overexploitation, potentially endangering certain plant species and their habitats. In tandem with these developments, technological advancements have heralded new methods aimed at enhancing the cultivation and refining the processing techniques involved in utilizing medicinal plants. This review article delves into the Application of Biotechnologies in both the production and processing of medicinal flora. Through a comprehensive evaluation, the merits and challenges inherent in this technological approach are scrutinized, alongside an assessment of their potential ramifications on the overall quality, yield, and sustainability of medicinal plant cultivation. In sum, this review offers valuable insights into the prevailing trends and future prospects pertaining to the adoption of novel technologies for the sustainable cultivation and processing of medicinal plants.
