Iran is renowned for its rich and astonishing biodiversity, particularly in the realm of medicinal plants and unique, rare species, which have been used in traditional medicine for centuries and are increasingly recognized in modern pharmacology. However, the prevalent practice of selling medicinal plants in raw form, without proper processing and extraction methods to preserve the purity and potency of valuable secondary metabolites, has inflicted deep environmental damages and harmed local producers and the entire Iranian economy. Despite these challenges, there is a hopeful path for Iran to capitalize on the economic potential of its medicinal plants through refining processes. By embracing innovative refining techniques and integrating modern knowledge with traditional wisdom, Iran can position itself at the forefront of the global market for natural medicines and herbal supplements. Through a comprehensive approach that combines scientific innovation with sustainable practices, Iran can not only strengthen its economic resilience but also safeguard its natural heritage for future generations. This article explores the potential of refining medicinal plants as a strategic pathway to enhance Iran s economic resilience and discusses the economic, social, and environmental benefits.
