Adding functional groups to polymers is one of the new ways to modify the properties of polymers and create new applications for them. For the polymer to show a set of special characteristics, in addition to the type of functional group, it is necessary to control the amount of these groups. In this research, the synthesis of functional poly-alpha-olefin using an AlCl3 containing system has been investigated. This product was identified by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and FT-IR spectra. The results showed that the copolymerization of alpha-olefins with functional monomers are produced without the problem of deactivation of the catalyst, which is in the appropriate viscosity range for use in different applications
