Chitosan (CS)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel beads were synthesized and used for removal of copper from aqueous solutions. Adsorption of Cu(II) on beads were studied as a function of different weight percentage of glutaraldehyde (GLA), average molecular weight of CS and pH of the solution. The maximum removal percentage (97%) was achived by CS at medium average molecular weight and 3 %wt. of GLA. Also, the results showed that the CS/PVA beads were stable in solutions with pH=7. Conclusively, synthesized beads are an effective adsorbents for Cu(II) removal from aqueous solutions.
