Ionic liquids have attracted attention as efficient chemical compounds for breaking W/O or O/Wemulsions. In this reaserch, novel and versatile imidazolium IL based microcrystalline cellulose was synthesized and evaluated as efficient and green natural polymeric surface active agent for the separation of water from oil. MCC[C6-IM-Si][BF4] compound showed the higher demulsification efficiency than other derivatives. The structure of synthesized compounds was confirmed by FT-IR, NMR, , FESEM, CHN, XRD, and TGA analyses. The interfacial activity of prepared neutral surface actives agent was investigated. The interfacial tension (IFT) was reduced by the enhancement of spration water from oil in tree 10:90, 30:70 and 50:50 W/O emulsions.
