A tetra-ester (TE) functionalized organic compound was synthesized for the restoration the mechanical properties of the rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) nanocomposites. TE was synthesized by a two-step reaction from therephthaldehyde and 2,5-dimethylphenol. The first step was to prepare the tetra phenol (TP) structure, and then TE was synthesized by ester functionalization of TP with acetic anhydride. The organically modified magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles (OMN) were prepared by its surface modification using TE to achieve the homogeneous magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles (MDH) distribution in the nanocomposite matrix. The PVC thin films were prepared by solvent blending and casting method. The thermogravimetry analyses and tensile test results revealed that TE and OMN have been effective for the improvement of the PVC thermal and mechanical properties.
