The growth of the population on the earth and increased demand for safe water sources led to a deep investigation of wastewater treatment. Mixed matrixed membranes (MMMs) are a class of economical and efficient toolboxes frequently used for water treatment. The current study represents a room temperature method for the synthesis of a hydrazone-linked covalent organic framework (Hz-COF) to be added into polysulfone (PSf)/ poly N-vinylpyrrolidone (PVP) polymeric matrix. Various analytical techniques were utilized to characterize the obtained Hz-COF@PSf/PVP MMM with different concentrations of Hz-COF. For instance, the crystallinity of the prepared COF was thoroughly investigated by X-ray diffraction. By adding only 1.0 wt.% of Hz-COF into PSf/PVP matrix, the dye rejection of 92% and 88% for basic blue 41 and Methyl Violet, respectively. Adding Hz-COF as a filler into PSf/PVP polymeric matrix provides MMM with excellent performance in removing cationic dyes in a dead-end stirred cell.
