Contact lenses are one of the most important devices that are being used by many people around the world. Casting molding method is one of the simplest and least expensive methods for manufacturing soft contact lenses in appropriate scale. Because the surface of the cornea must always have proper wetting and great oxygen permeability, these properties are critical traits in lens studies. In this study, after fabrication of soft contact lenses, by using the surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP), poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) homopolymer brushes were applied on the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) surface. After grafting of PHEMA brushes on the PDMS substrate, the samples were examined by contact angle and ATR-FTIR analyses. The results show that the contact angle of the PDMS substrate decreased from about 113 to 48°.
