Today, water-based coatings have attracted a lot of attention due to the importance of reducing the emission of volatile organic compounds. However, polymers usually have low surface energy, while water-based inks have a higher surface tension, which makes them unable to wet these surfaces well. In this research, a new approach was introduced to modify water-based acrylic resins with epoxy resins to use them as a binder of printing inks on polymer substrates. It was found that the adhesion and hardness of modified resins increased on PVC substrate. The presence of epoxide groups increased the water resistance of these resins. Also, by adding ethylene diamine to modified resins, their water resistance increased again.
