Poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate)/ clay nanocomposites were prepared by mixing the latex with aqueous clay dispersion. The products were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and rheometry. XRD was applied to study the dispersion of nanoclay. It was found that a fully exfoliated structure could be obtained by this method. Result nanocomposite was found to have good stability. It was observed that the particle size of the latex increases when 6 wt% Cloisite Na+ (ClNa+) is introduced into the latex. The results indicated that the nanocomposites show shear thinning behavior with increasing shear rate.
