Anisotropic spheres were first observed by Brooks and Taylor. Soon it was identified as a clue to the development of carbonaceous fibers, foams, and composites. Because of the structure dependency of carbonaceous materials properties, rheology can be a bridge to understanding structural related properties, which leads to optimizing and controlling this group of material processing. Mesophase pitch has complicating behaviors that affect the process, such as shear thinning, stress overshoot, and stress undershoot. This work briefly summarizes some essential and typical behaviors of mesophase pitch.
