This work reports the effect of using surface modified graphene oxide nano-platelets by dopamine (GOPD) to improve the properties of gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) nanocomposite. In this regard, different amounts of the GOPD (0 to 1.0 w%) were added to the GelMA solution, and the mechanical properties of the hydrogels were investigated. The GOPD, thanks to its good interaction with polymer chains of GelMA, improved the hydrogel peroperties. The obtained results showed that adding 0.5 w% GOPD to the hydrogel improved the compressive strength (7.5 times) and compressive modulus (7 times) compared to GelMA hydrogel. The synergistic stabilization mechanism between GelMA and GOPD was related to the formation of hydrogen bonds between nanoplates and gelatin chains.
