Persian gum (PG) is a sustainable biopolymer which requires modification to enhance its water resistance. Herein, an efficient chemical modification was performed on PG using oxidant, silane coupling agent, and vinyl acetate. Decrease in the oxidant concentration from 2 to 0.5 wt. % resulted in about 3.6 times increase in the intrinsic viscosity of the modified PGs, indicative of increase in their visocity-average molecular weight. This in turn led to approximately 115% decrease in the equilibrium swelling ratio of the modified PGs, which was in accordance with increase in the ternary interaction parameter of the system with water.
